Tax Reforms: Tinubu Must Listen To North Otherwise, He’s Calling For Anarchy – Gov Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed concerns that President Bola Tinubu’s tax policies will not benefit northern Nigeria.

In a recent media chat, President Tinubu defended the tax reform bills, saying they are essential to revamping the country’s economy.

However, Governor Mohammed, who also leads the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, argued that these reforms are likely to benefit only the southern part of the country.

He said that the policies would not provide the necessary funds to pay salaries or build infrastructure in the north.

Speaking to the Christian community in Bauchi State during a visit to the Government House, Mohammed stated that the tax reforms are not good for the north because they won’t bring in enough money to pay salaries or build roads.

He called on President Tinubu to listen to the concerns of the northern region, warning that ignoring these issues could lead to unrest.

Governor Mohammed emphasized the need for policies that support all regions of Nigeria,

“That is why the presidency must listen to the cries about tax reform. It is not a good policy for northern Nigeria because we are not going to get money to pay your salaries or to do roads. They must listen; otherwise, they are calling for anarchy. And that is not good.

“We voted for the presidency in this state and other states; they must listen to us. They must not come up with policies that favour only one section of the country or even one state in the country.

“It is not about religion; it is not about tribe; it is about national unity; it is about national hegemony, and this is what we are all about: good leadership,” he said.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Senate recently ordered its Finance Committee to suspend further action on the proposed tax reform bill until after a crucial meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
