Dangote Group has retrieved the body of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija reality star, Phyna, from the hospital where she died.

Ruth Otabor had been battling for her life after her leg was amputated following an accident involving a Dangote truck near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.

Sadly, she passed away on Sunday morning, just weeks after the incident.

Her death was announced in a statement by the family through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, which confirmed she died at about 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.

Phyna’s family also requested privacy during this difficult time, adding that details of her burial would be made known later.

“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.

A family source told PUNCH that the Dangote Group was informed immediately after Ruth’s death.

According to the source, the company’s representatives later moved her body to the mortuary and are expected to cover the funeral costs, as they had earlier taken responsibility for her medical bills.

“When she died this morning, the representatives of Dangote Group were contacted and notified. They later came and took the corpse to the mortuary.

“We are expecting that they take over the expenses of her burial, since they had stepped in to take over her medical expenses,” the source said.

Another relative, who did not want to be named due to the mourning period, described Ruth as a lively and caring person.

“We will miss her. We had thought she would survive after she started recuperating. She was very loving to be with. We used to call her Bobo, which was her nickname.

“She stayed with her parents at Ketu-Alapere from where they often visited our family house in Omojua Estate, Kosofe,” the relative said.

After Ruth Otabor was hit by a heavy-duty Dangote truck, which crushed her leg, Phyna had publicly appealed for her sister to be flown abroad for advanced medical treatment.

In response to the accident, Dangote Group confirmed it had visited the scene, worked with law enforcement, and met with the family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State.

KanyiDaily recalls that Dangote company assured Phyna’s family of full medical support and pledged compensation under its welfare policy.
