A 25-year-old man, Hammed Tunde, was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend, identified as Gafar, during an argument over a woman in the Oja Gboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday evening while both friends were buying sugarcane from a roadside vendor.
Witnesses said what started as a simple disagreement quickly turned violent when Gafar, 21, pulled out a knife and stabbed Tunde in the chest.

Tunde, who lived in the Ile-Soro 2 area of Oja Gboro, was rushed to a nearby private hospital and later transferred to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
The suspect, said to be from Ile Olowo in the same neighborhood, fled immediately after the attack. His current location, along with that of his family, remains unknown.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said officers received a distress call around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday and quickly responded.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Hammed Usman Tunde, was stabbed by his friend, Gafar, who fled immediately after the incident. Operatives later visited the suspect’s family house, but the entire household had absconded,” she said.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, extended condolences to Tunde’s family and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to find the suspect.
CP Adekimi Ojo also praised residents of Oja Gboro for staying calm and avoiding any act of mob justice.
He said, “We understand the pain of losing a loved one in such a tragic way, but we urge everyone to remain calm as the police intensify efforts to bring the suspect to justice.”
