Founder of Life Transformation Praying Ministry, in Akwakuma, Owerri, Rev Dr Success Emeka has been forced to marry the corpse of his 32-year-old fiancée, Chioma Okoye, after she died when he allegedly aborted her pregnancy without her consent to save his reputation.

A Facebook user, Anita Nenyenwa Uzoije, who shared the story on her page, said Pastor Emeka and Chioma have been dating for over five years, adding that they got engaged in 2020 and started planning their wedding.

It was gathered that Chioma became pregnant while wedding plans were underway but the pastor rejected the unborn baby because his church frowns upon pregnancy before marriage and it would damage his reputation.

Anita alleged that Pastor Emeka drugged Chioma’s drink and she became unconscious before taking her to a hospital where he persuaded the doctor to terminate the pregnancy which eventually led to her death after vomiting blood.

“Chioma and Pastor Emeka started dating 5 years ago, sometime last year they agreed to marry, they began their wedding plans, infact somethings for the wedding have been bought, along the line Chioma discovered she was pregnant and told her Fiance who has a church somewhere in Akwakuma (life transformation ministry),” Anita wrote.

“This news didn’t go down well with him due owing to the fact that he’s a pastor and a theology teacher, probably he has asked her to abort it and she declined, sometime in February, 24th precisely, he called Chioma to come over so they can conclude with the planning, on getting there he served Chioma a drink laced with a substance and Chioma became unconscious, he took her to a hospital. (I will try to verify the name from my her sister).

“The doctor told him that he can’t conduct an abortion on her but Pastor Emeka insisted, in the process of doing the abortion she began to vomit blood from her mouth, she was still unconscious, when the doctor noticed her case was getting worse he advised him to take her to FMC.

“He took her to FMC and registered her with another name all together and began to call her family that she was ill, it was immediately her sister stepped in that Chioma died.

An autopsy conducted on the deceased by her family showed the pastor tried to perform the abortion while she was drugged and unconscious before eventually taking her to the hospital after his technique failed.

The family of the deceased were said to have forced Pastor Emeka to marry Chioma before her burial on Tuesday, August 31 in Umuahia, Abia.

“Her family decided to conduct an Autopsy and discovered her drink was laced and there was attempted abortion on her. He was called and queried. That was when he accepted he had a hand in her death and that he laced her drink with a substance that will make her unconscious.

“Her family didn’t want trouble (she’s actually from a very strong Christian home, her brother’s are pastors and her mum is a devoted Christian) he was arrested but released on the grounds that he will marry her corpse. He did the necessary rite and she was buried in umuahia but not he’s father’s compound but a cemetery, probably he’s trying to cover he’s sin.

The last name of Chioma on her obituary poster was changed to include the pastor’s name ‘Sunday’ as a sign that he had married her after completing the necessary rite.

Despite his crime, Anita lamented that “churches still call this man to come and preach and give ministration, he is still a theology teacher at bethel seminary, this man is walking freely like nothing happened but we won’t keep quiet.”
