His resignation was made public on Tuesday after a letter announcing his move was read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter, Victor Umeh said his decision came after consulting widely with political stakeholders, his family, and constituents.

He also pointed to ongoing internal disagreements within the ADC as a key reason for his departure.

“I write to inform you of my decision to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),” he said.

“I’ve taken this decision after wide consultations with my family, my constituents, and supporters in view of the lingering divisions in the leadership and unending mitigations in the african democratic congress.

“I remain committed to making my contributions towards the development of our dear nation, but this time through the NDC.”

Victor Umeh had only joined the ADC on March 12, alongside eight other senators, in a defection that took place on the Senate floor just about two months ago.

The 63-year-old lawmaker previously served as the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before his recent political moves.

KanyiDaily also reported that the House of Representatives on Tuesday experienced a major political shake-up as 17 lawmakers dumped the ADC) for the NDC during plenary.
