The Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 37-year-old grandmother whom is also pregnant, Ekaette Obot, for stealing and selling her granddaughter for N200,000.

The police say Obot claimed to have sold the child to free her 18-year-old daughter, Blessing Okon, from the burden of motherhood as they don’t have money to fend for themselves.

Parading her before newsmen at the command’s headquarters yesterday July 31st, the state Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, said Obot, who is also pregnant, told the Police that as soon as she gives birth, she will sell the baby.

Obot told the police that with her job as a cleaner, she can not feed herself, her daughter, granddaughter and her own unborn child.
