The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, Publisher of Sahara Reporters and the convener of RevolutionNow protest.
The Department of Social Security (DSS) had filed an application to detain Sowore who was arrested on August 3, following the call for revolution.
However, during its ruling on Tuesday, September 23, 2019, The Justice Taiwo Taiwo-led court threw out the application by the DSS, saying there was no longer a subsisting order holding Sowore in detention, hence the need to grant him bail.
Sowore’s lawyer, Femi Falana told the court that since the detention order has expired and application for renewal has been withdrawn, the court should make a consequential order and release Sowore.
He also said; “If the court wants him and i will produce him (Sowore).”
Justice Taiwo ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport to the court while releasing him to his lawyer, Femi Falana.
