Man Kills Pregnant Girlfriend In Jigawa To Avoid Shame Of Having A Child Outside Wedlock

Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Mustapha Idris, for killing his 20-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Nafisa Hashimu, who was living together with him in Daneji village, Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

The state police command spokesperson, Audu Jinjiri, who disclosed this to newsmen, said Idris stabbed Hashimu to death after she told him she was three months pregnant.

The corpse of the deceased was found in her pool of blood in a bush at the outskirts of Daneji village about 22 kilometres from Ringim town.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday from his police cell, Idris said he killed his girlfriend to avoid the shame of giving birth outside wedlock. He said:

“I’m ashamed of how the society will see us after she delivers the unborn child out of wedlock, and thus I decided to terminate her life to stay away from shame.”

Mr Jinjiri said police preliminary investigation found that the late Ms Hashimu was a divorcee, adding that she was certified dead by a medical doctor and released to relatives for burial.

The suspect would be charged to court to face the wrath of the law, the police spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a man has been accused of throwing down his pregnant girlfriend from the 5th floor of an apartment he lives in at Obosi Street in Onitsha South local government of Anambra State.
