A Lebanese man identified as Wael Jerro who offered to sell a Nigerian woman for $1,000 on Facebook, has been arrested by the Lebanese government.
KanyiDaily had reported how Jerro placed a $1,000 price tag on a Nigerian woman identified as Busari Peace Ufuoma, in a closed group on Facebook ‘Buy and Sell in Lebanon’.
Several Nigerians had condemned the move, asking the Nigerian government to swiftly wade into the issue and ensure justice is done.
Reacting to the outrage, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the country’s mission in Lebanon had reported the issue to the host authorities, adding that “a manhunt was already on.”
In a fresh update on her Twitter page on Thursday, Dabiri-Erewa said Jerro has been arrested and he would be prosecuted for “criminal sales of a human.”
The NIDCOM Boss, however, did not disclose if the Nigerian woman has been rescued.
“Breaking news on Trafficked Nigerian girl for sale on Facebook by a Lebanese! The Lebanese Government just announced the arrest of Mr. WAEL JERRO for onward prosecution against criminal sales of a human, a young Nigerian girl,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, a young Nigerian lady who identified herself as Omolola Ajayi, has cried out for help in a video that has gone viral, claiming she was allegedly sold into slavery in Lebanon by a close family friend.
