A policeman reportedly shot dead a soldier over disagreements at a drinking spot in Bomadi Town in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to reports, some policemen on routine patrol had on Wednesday met three soldiers at a drinking parlour, an argument ensued and one of the soldiers slapped one of the policemen and attempted to take his rifles.

The policeman who had already rocked his gun, unfortunately, pulled the trigger and shot the soldier who died on the spot.

The incident caused serious tension in the area as many customers at the drinking spot scampered for safety.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Hon. William Angadi appealed to the security agencies to exercise restraint and allow the government to resolve the matter.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who also confirmed the incident in a telephone chat ssid: “We are on that one. We are on it.”

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz said the leadership of security agencies has intervened in the matter just as an investigation is ongoing to unravel the true cause of the killing.

Asked, if there will be retaliation by soldiers, Hafiz said: ”There will be no need for that both of them are Nigerian Security forces and the government will investigate and carry out a punishment on the guilty party”
