President Buhari Appoints NEMA DG, NAICOM & NDIC Board Members

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (retd) as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Muhammadu Muhammed now serves as a replacement for erstwhile DG, Mustapha Maihaja, who was appointed in 2017.

This contained in a statement from the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

According to the statement, the appointment of Muhammed as the NEMA boss was implemented on Thursday, April 30th, for an initial period of four years in accordance with Section 3 of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Act.

It added that the erstwhile Director-General of the agency Mustapha Maihaja, has been directed to handover all official matters to the incoming boss with immediate effect.

President Buhari also approved the appointment of Mr Sunday Thomas as the substantive Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive Officer, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

Mr Yunusa Abdullahi, Special Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

Thomas replaced Malam Mohammed Kari, who was Acting Commissioner for Insurance/CEO of the commission.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new appointee has over three decades of experience in the industry as an operator and regulator.

He was appointed Deputy Commissioner in charge of technical matters by Buhari in April 2017 and was also a former Director-General of the Nigerian Insurers Association in 2010.

The special adviser also announced the appointments of two board members for the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

He said Mrs Ya’ana Yaro was appointed as Non-Executive Director representing the North East while Mrs Diana Okonta as Non-Executive Director representing South South. He added that the appointments take immediate effect.
