Six Dead, 11 Injured As Speeding Bus Crashes With Truck Along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

The accident occurred as a result of excessive speeding leading to loss of control of the bus and crashing eventually.

Six persons have been confirmed died while 11 others sustained injuries in a fatal motor accident along Enugu-Onitsha expressway at Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Public Education Officer in Anambra State, RC Kamal Musa, who confirmed this in a statement, said 17 people were involved in the crash which happened at about 5pm on Sunday.

Musa said the accident involving two vehicles; a white commercial bus and an unregistered shuttle bus, was caused by excessive speeding.

“Six people were killed and 11 injured in a fatal crash involving a mini white bus belonging to CDO transport Company with registration number BGT 313 XA and a white truck without a registration number.

“Accident was recorded at 1710hrs this evening 22nd November 2020 at Nkwelle Junction along Nteje – Onitsha expressway.

“Eyewitness report reaching us indicates that the crash occurred as a result of excessive speeding leading to loss of control of the bus and crashing eventually.

“A total of seventeen (17) people (11) Male adults and (6) female adults were involved in the Crash. Eleven (11) male adults who sustained varying degree of injuries were rushed to Iyi – Ene Hospital Ogidi by FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command who deposited Corpses of the dead victims at the Mogue after Doctor’s confirmation.”

Musa added that the road obstruction caused by the accident is being cleared to ensure the free flow of traffic.

While commiserating with the deceased families, Musa warned motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits stipulated by law and minimize avoidable crashes especially during the ember months.
