Leah Sharibu Reportedly Gives Birth To Her Second Child In Boko Haram Captivity

Leah Sharibu has reportedly given birth to a second child in captivity.

Leah Sharibu, a teenage Dapchi Christian Schoolgirl abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in 2018, has reportedly given birth to her second child in captivity.

A United States-based group, US-Nigeria Law Group, disclosed this in a statement commemorating the 3rd anniversary of the Dapchi schoolgirl mass abductions, particularly the abandonment of heroine Christian schoolgirl Leah Sharibu.

In the statement, the Convener of the US-Nigeria Law Group, Emmanuel Ogebe, said that Leah Sharibu delivered her two children in 2020, adding “We are still investigating this.”

“That notwithstanding, intelligence received on the status of Leah indicates that she has delivered a second child in captivity.

“While we have not corroborated this by multiple sources, a usually knowledgeable source indicated that she delivered a second child late last year.

“This means both children were born in 2020, as the terrorists announced her childbirth earlier in 2020. We are still investigating this,” the statement partly reads.

The group lamented the condition Ms Sharibu has found herself as it could be argued that the government has abandoned the Dapchi “heroine Christian” schoolgirl.

Ogebe said that “despite an offer by an American pastor last month to surrender himself in exchange for Leah’s freedom, there has been no tangible response from her captors.”

the US group in its commemorative statement, said “until she is released, Leah remains a poster child and symbol of a failed state that can’t protect its children.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Leah was among 110 schoolgirls abducted on February 19, 2018 by Boko Haram terrorists from Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe State.

In March 2018, the Federal Government announced that the insurgents had returned 106 of the kidnapped schoolchildren, but Leah was not among them.

It was reported that Leah, who was 14-year-old at the time she was kidnapped, was not released because she refused to convert to Islam.

She was later forced to accept Islam before being married off to a top Boko Haram commander after she refused to renounce her Christian faith.

In 2020, a reliable source close to Boko Haram revealed that Leah had given birth to a baby boy for the top Boko Haram commander whom she was forced to marry after converting her to Islam.

Leah’s family reacted to media reports last year, saying their only desire was to have their daughter with or without a baby released alive.
