Nigerian Police Suspends Abba Kyari Over Hushpuppi’s Million-Dollar Fraud

The Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari has been suspended from the Service of the Nigeria Police Force pending the outcome of ongoing internal investigations against him.

KanyiDaily had reported how Kyari was indicted by the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) in an investigation of alleged million-dollar fraud perpetrated by a suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi.

Abba Kyari was said to have allegedly collected a bribe from Hushpuppi to jail and torture one of his associates after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on a Qatari businessman.

The US District Court for the Central District of California has ordered the FBI to track down Abba Kyari and produce him in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Hushppupi and his co-conspirators.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba has earlier ordered an internal review of the allegations preferred against Kyari in the court documents served by the FBI.

Police Service Commission Suspends Abba Kyari

A statement issued by the Police Service Commission Sunday afternoon, said Abba Kyari has been suspended from the exercise of the powers and functions of his office effective from Saturday, July 31, 2022.

”The Police Service Commission has suspended Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head, Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force from the exercise of the Powers and functions of his office.

“Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31st 2021 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.

“The Commission has also directed the Inspector General of Police to furnish it with information on further development on the matter for necessary further action.

“The Commission’s decision which was conveyed in a letter with reference, PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the Inspector General of Police today, Sunday, August 1st, 2021, was signed by Hon. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Honourable Commissioner 1 in the Commission for the Commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police who is currently on leave”.

 

KanyiDaily had reported how Abba Kyari is lobbying the IGP, and threatening to expose other top police officers who have benefitted from his largesse, should he be handed over to the FBI and extradited.
