Angry Youths Burns Down Sokoto Commissioner’s House ‘For Conniving With Bandits’

Angry youths have burned down the house of Sokoto Commissioner for allegedly conniving with bandits.

Angry youths have razed the house of the Sokoto State Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, Garba Moyi, at the Isa Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the aggrieved youths burnt the commissioner’s house on Monday evening over his alleged connivance with bandits terrorizing Isa LGA.

The vehicles belonging to Nasiru Ahamad, district head of the area, were also vandalized by the mob for allegedly defending the activities of bandits in the area.

TheCable quoted a resident, Abdullahi Hariss, saying that the people in the area had accused the two leaders of not showing concern to the banditry activities in the area.

“People organised protest to express their grievances because they were angry over the incessant attacks by the bandits in the area and some of them thought these people (commissioner and district head) have a hand in the banditry attacks in the state or they have certain benefits they are collecting from them and that’s why they did what they did,” Hariss said.

“Most people have been arrested in police stations for attacking these bandits and they are not doing anything to put an end to it and that’s why people are angry that the commissioner for security and the head of the district do not take any necessary action regarding the incident.”

“They give bandits free movements, they don’t want anybody to kill them. Bandits would come to the town, do whatever they want and go scot-free because people have been warned not to do anything to them.”

Heariss lamented that the bandits have terrorised the community numerous times without the government taking necessary steps, alleging that the authorities are covering up the matter from going to the public.

“Those Involved Have All Been Arrested” – Police

When contacted, Sokoto Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sanusi Abubakar who confirmed the incident, said all those involved in burning the commissioner’s house have been arrested.

“Peace has been restored in the area; the commissioner was there in person to assess the situation. We knew all the people that were involved and they have all been arrested,” he said.

“No life was involved, and as soon as the investigation is completed, the details will be made known to the public,” Sanusi said.

He, however, appealed to the residence in the area to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies and the police to maintain the security of lives and property of the citizenry in the state.

This comes a few days after bandits allegedly sent a threat notice of impending attacks to the residents of Sokoto communities.
