“I Wasn’t Hospitalized”- Saleh Mamman Denies Collapsing After Buhari Sacked Him

Mamman claimed he had been ill and had been receiving treatment since last weekend before the sack was announced.

Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman has denied being hospitalized after he reportedly collapsed upon hearing that President Muhammadu Buhari had sacked him from his position.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Buhari had sacked Saleh Mamman along with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammed Sabo Nanono.

Following the dismissal on Wednesday, there were reports that Mamman had been quietly receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja after he collapsed upon receiving the news that Buhari had relieved him of his job.

However, during an interview with BBC Hausa, the ex-minster who admitted that he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness since last weekend, denied fainting nor being hospitalized as reported.

“Even before the sack was announced, I have been seriously ill. I had not even gone to the office since earlier in the week,” Mamman said.

“So, yesterday (Wednesday) and today I also went back to the hospital for another round of check-up, and the doctor instructed that I needed some rest. So I remained at one place to rest.

“I found a serene and quiet environment to rest and take medication as recommended by the doctor. I didn’t stay at home because sympathisers are trooping to console me.

“This would prevent me from resting and convalescing on time. But I was also not hospitalised, and I didn’t faint as reported.”

The ex-minister revealed that President Buhari called him on Monday night to inform him of the sack, adding that “whether I am fired or not, I must step down in two years away.”

KanyiDaily recalls that before his sack, the ex-minister Sale Mamman had claimed that the entire country is currently enjoying between 18 to 24 hours of power supply every day.
