The Senate has received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm the appointment of the Secretary and Board members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Buhari’s letter seeking the screening and confirmation of the nominees was read on the floor of the Senate by its president, Ahmad Lawan, at the commencement of plenary on Tuesday.
The president explained that the request for the confirmation of the nominees was in accordance with the provision of section 2(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.
Buhari urged the Senate to confirm them in the “usual expeditious manner”.
Those to be confirmed include George Abbah Ekpungu, Secretary (Cross River); Luqman Muhammed (Edo); Anumba Adaeze (Enugu); Alhaji Kola Raheem Adesina (Kwara); and Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad (Yobe).
The appointments comes a few days after the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa slumped while delivering his speech at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
