Canadian Government has announced that two cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant have been confirmed in persons who had recently traveled from Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Ontario government on Sunday, the two Nigerian patients are already isolated, adding that the province public health is already conducting case and contact management.
“Today, the province of Ontario has confirmed two cases of the omicron variant of COVID-19 in Ottawa, both of which were reported in individuals with recent travel from Nigeria.
“Ottawa Public Health is conducting case and contact management and the patients are in isolation,” the statement reads.
Although the federal government is yet to announce the detection of the new variant in the country, the Indonesian Government has announced that it will ban travelers from Nigeria and seven other African countries to curb the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
The ban, which will take effect from today, extends to people who have been in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Eswatini, or Nigeria in the past 14 days.
