A 12-year-old boy identified as Sylvester Oromoni Junior has been beaten to his death by his colleagues for refusing to join a cult group in Dowen College, Lekki Phase One, Lagos State.
A Twitter user identified as @Perrisonoromoni said the boy was bullied on Friday, but he died on Tuesday after a series of tests and X-rays indicated that he sustained internal injuries.
It was gathered that after his death, the school management had reached out to the deceased’s father and told him that his boy sustained injuries while playing football at the school.
@Perrisonoromoni wrote, “This is my 12years old cousin that was beaten to death at a school that cost over 1 million naira. Dowen College is a disgrace. He mentioned 5 names before passing yesterday
“It’s a boarding school in Lagos. They called my uncle that he wasn’t well so he went there took him and admitted him to an hospital in Warri. That’s where he passed but confessed that they tried blending him into cult.
“They called my uncle that he got injured playing football. Reaching the hospital it was confirmed that he was being bullied and beaten up causing internal damages”.
When contacted by, a Dowen College representative, Ayomide Falona, said she could not give details on the matter as investigations were ongoing.
Ms Falona also denied that cultists assaulted the 12-year-old student in the school. “It is not true, and there has never been a case of cultism in the school. Investigations are still ongoing, and that’s all I can say for now,” she said.
Checks on Wednesday morning indicated that Dowen College had blocked its Instagram comment section.
