Deborah: I’m Not Afraid, I Was Abused & Stoned When I Took Stand Against Sharia – Atiku

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has revealed why he deleted a post he shared on social media condemning the killing of Deborah Samuel, a Christian female student at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State.

KanyiDaily recalls that Atiku had shared a post condemning the mob action against Deborah who was beaten and burnt to death by her Muslim colleagues over alleged blasphemous remarks considered to be an insult to Prophet Mohammed.

Less than an hour later, Atiku deleted both posts on his Facebook and Twitter pages after northern Islamic fanatics warned him to stay away from condemning Deborah’s murder, threatening to vote against him at the presidential polls.

The vice former president, who is seeking the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) later returned to deny making the post himself.

In a post shared on his Hausa Facebook page, Atiku said the viral posts earlier on his pages were posted without his consent, stating that any post that does not come with AA is not from him and should be ignored.

Atiku had came under heavy backlash on social media after he denied approving a post where he condemned the killing of Deborah Samuel by Islamic fanatics over blasphemy.

Atiku Speaks On Deleted Posts

Speaking on why the post was taken down, Atiku said he did not authorise it, stressing that he’s not afraid to take a stand on critical issues and he had suffered consequences for such in the past.

The PDP presidential hopeful spoke when he paid a consultative visit to Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, at the government house, Benin.

Atiku said, “Every tweet has to get my approval. Unfortunately, this tweet, because I was travelling all over Nigeria, did not have my approval. So, I said it should be taken out. That every tweet must have my express approval.

“I am not a person that is afraid to take a stand on issues. You know the stand I took on sharia. I was pelted and abused in the north but then, how long did the sharia last?

“I told them they were having political sharia. I was vilified. They threw stones at me, and that didn’t make me change my position as far as sharia is concerned. But where is the sharia today?

“So, the only thing that went wrong with that tweet was that it wasn’t authorised by me.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode had also lambasted Atiku Abubakar for deleting the social media posts where he condemned the killing of Deborah Samuel.
