Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post shared on his Twitter page on Wednesday, June 29, the former governor demanded that a southerner must succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
He kicked against the emergence of the former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, as the presidential candidate of the major opposition party, insisting that the PDP constitution provides for a rotational Presidency.
Fayose also tweeted that “awa south lo kan” — which means “it is the turn of the south”. The remark is a reference to the catchphrase attributed to Tinubu of APC.
He wrote, “The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.
“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa “South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should await details soon.”
KanyiDaily had earlier reported that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom had also said he won’t support Atiku until he gets God’s approval, following his decision to insult wike.
