Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it will interrogate Grammy award-winning singer, Burna Boy, over alleged shooting of two fun seekers by his security team at Cubana Nightclub in Victoria Island.
KanyiDaily had earlier reported that five policemen attached to the singer were arrested and detained for attempted murder after they shot two fun seekers, Irebami Lawrence and another identified simply as Tolu, at Club Cubana in Lagos on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the incident happened when Lawrence kicked against Burna Boy’s moves ‘to invite and spend time with his wife’, insisting that it was disrespectful for any man to make advances at his wife.
During the heated confrontation, one of Burna Boy’s police escort identified as Ibrahim was said to have shot Lawrence in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet.
Amid the backlash trailing the incident, a Twitter user identified as Adeshina had called on the police to focus its investigation on its officers involved in the incident.
“This has nothing to do with burna boy. The duty of police guard to Burna Boy is to protect his life. So, sir forget what some Burna (Boy) haters said about him. Please carry out your investigation (with) due diligence sir. God bless Nigeria police force,” the user wrote.
In his response, the police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said there is no way they can conduct a detailed investigation into the matter without interrogating Burna Boy.
Adejobi said, “Exactly what we will do. But there is no how d police want to have detailed investigation without interrogating BB (Burna Boy). No way.
“So, the level of involvement of everyone in the incident will determine his punishment or otherwise. We should not pre-empt what the report will reveal.”
KanyiDaily had also reported how a distraughted fan identified as Samuel O has accused Burna Boy of bashing his car and driving off without apology at the Lekki area of Lagos.
