Extortion: I Have Been Arrested Before Even As Lagos PPRO – Force Spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has revealed that he had once been arrested by policemen in what appeared to be a case of police extortion.

He said the incident happened when he was the Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos command.

He did not however, reveal the exact date the incident took place.

Force Spokesman, Adejobi Speaks On Police Extortion, Recounts Personal Experience

Adejobi was reacting to series of tweets by some users on Sunday night, who claimed some policemen have been extorting them. He was tagged in the tweets.

It started when a twitter user, Esho Samuel Ifeoluwa asked him, “Sir,how I wish u can disguise one day and experience live what ur men are capable of.”

Responding, Adejobi disclosed that when he was arrested by the policemen, he followed them to the counter and was even behind the bar for one hour, in which he assessed their deals and caught them red-handed before taking the needed action.

He then appealed to the public to always be patient and take out time in addressing the problem of extortion.

He wrote, “I have been arrested by policemen at Area F Ikeja, wen i was d PPRO Lagos. I followed them to the counter, i was even behind d bar. Was wit them for one hour to assess their deals, caught them red-handed, bef taking necessary action.

“So we need to always be patient and take out time in addressing the problem of extortion.”

The following tweets and replies appears to be a complain that officers of the force extorted a medical doctor.

In one of the tweets, a user with the name @PeterObiApostle, had written, “Policemen are capable of anything.”

Adejobi responded, “But how would a trained medical dr pay the men on the road. Why didnt he sacrifice some time to follow them to the base? My  reservation on the matter. So he is a buoyant boss.”

Another user, Anthony Okwuosha also complained of the said extortion of a medical personnel.

“@Princemoye1  see your people!
They have done it again ooo! Please do something.”

The force spokesman responded, “Done what? Should a medical Dr fall into the antics of d bad eggs? As a doctor, some policemen extorted for having ur instruments of office on u, drugs or medication. Too bad bro.”

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily had reported that the Nigeria Police Force had dismissed an officer, Richard Gele, for dignifying and justifying extortion.

The dismissed officer was caught on camera boasting that he takes bribe and extortion, saying that even the Inspector General of Police and his former commander knows he takes bribe.
