Many persons were trapped when a three-storey building under construction collapsed at the Beirut GSM market, along Ibrahim Taiwo road in the Kano metropolis of Kano State.
It was gathered that the uncompleted building presently houses those selling mobile phones and other accessories collapsed around 3.40 pm on Tuesday.
The spokesperson for the Kano State’s Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, told newsmen that at least seven people have been rescued and are responding to treatment in the hospital.
Abdullahi said rescue workers of the Kano Fire Service are still working at the site. He said many persons are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
The official said the building collapsed when additional stairs were being added to the building which houses many traders selling phones, while others sell food and rest under the shade of the building.
KanyiDaily had also reported on Friday that a two-storey building collapsed in Kubwa Satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with two persons recorded dead.
