Police Will Never Beg People To Obey Laws, They Will Be Enforced – Lagos Police Command

The Lagos State Police Command has said it must enforce the laws in the discharge of its mandate.

Spokesman of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin stated this in a tweet on his verified twitter handle on Saturday morning.

Hundeyin said the police, anywhere in the world will never beg people to obey the law, adding that the laws must be enforced.

While calling on everyone to get used to the fact that laws must be enforced, the police spokesman lamented the situation where trying to enforce laws by law enforcement agents is seen as harassment by the public.

“Law enFORCEment officers, especially the police cannot enFORCE laws again, everyone screams harassment. The police, anywhere in the world, will never beg people to obey laws. The laws will be enFORCEd. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. Get used to this,” he tweeted.

What May Have Prompted Hundeyin’s Tweet

Hundeyin’s tweet appears to be a reaction to a tweet made by twitter user, Taophyk A, in which he alleged that the police threatened the life of a female journalist on an assignment.

Posting a video recording of the altercation between a police officer and the journalist, the twitter user had lamented that the country is no longer in the military era where journalistic roles are restricted.

He tagged the Force Spokesman, Adejobi in his tweet and urged him to tame the officer, whom he claimed was from the Lagos command.

“@Princemoye1 The last I remember, we are not under military regime where journalistic roles are restricted by the police in public space. If this is one of your men, he needs to be tamed. This happened in Lagos where he threatened the life of female journalists,” his tweet.

Responding to Taophyk’s tweet, Hundeyin asked him to furnish the force with the location where the incident took place so that proper action can be taken.

He however, wondered how the officer in question, threatened the life of the journalist or anyone for that matter, appealing to people not to whip up sentiments.

“Agreed. Something wrong might be going on here. Give exact location to enable proper action. But how and where did he threaten anyone’s life? Or should he go drop his rifle because he wants to talk to you? We need not whip up sentiments,” he said.

Kanyi Daily recalls that few days ago, the Lagos police command had said Nigerian singer, BNXN will answer to charges for assaulting a police officer.

BNXN was involved in an altercation with some officers, whom he claimed threatened his life. He also admitted in a now-deleted tweet that he spat in an officer’s face and it felt good to him.

The singer later denied assualting the officer by spitting in his face, saying his tweet was misconstrued.

In other news, this site also recalls that few weeks ago, the Nigeria police Force dismissed an officer, caught in a viral video, publicly justifying extortion.

Days later, another officer was sacked by the force for beating a harmless citizen with a machete.
