An armed robbery syndicate evaded arrest by men of the Delta State Police Command, by taking to a market crowd when it sighted the security operatives.
The spokesman of the command, DSP Bright Edafe stated this in a statement issued on Saturday and posted on the Twitter handle of the command.
According to him, the armed robbery syndicate operates around the Awka-Enugu highway axis but hibernates in Asaba.
He said, acting on an intelligence report about the syndicate, at about 1145hrs of date operatives of the CP-Decoy Squad acting on a tip-off, mobilised to Oduke-Okwe axis of Asaba where the suspects who were driving a Toyota Sienna SUV with Reg. No. ASB 781 YF.
Upon sighting the Police, Edafe said, the suspects “abandoned the said vehicle and took into the crowd at the market.
“Upon search of the vehicle, one locally Made Barretta Pistol, and a Samsung phone was recovered beneath the driver’s seat.”
The police image maker said an investigation is ongoing.
