Popular Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has warned Northerners against voting for politicians who will fight bandits in the 2023 general elections.
In a sermon circulating on social media, the cleric told his congregants that they should only vote for leaders who would negotiate with bandits when elected into office.
According to him, bandits are “our people,” and warriors who shouldn’t be killed but negotiated with for peace to reign.
Gumi said, “Don’t vote for those who will fight bandits. The fighters are our warriors in the forest……. Our people in the forest.
“So vote for those who after attaining power will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) so as to give them what they want for peace to reign.”
This comes a few months after Sheikh Ahmad Gumi distanced himself from bandits following their declaration as terrorists by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
