2023: Police Stops Tinubu’s Rally In Niger Over ‘Likely Breach Of Security’

Niger State Police Command has stopped a rally organized for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu in the state.

It was gathered that the police stopped the rally on Tuesday morning following an order by the state Governor, Sani Abubakar Bello.

Governor Bello, whose second term ends on May 28, 2023, is the Niger North senatorial candidate of the APC.

Senator Sabi Abdullahi, who organised the rally for Tinubu, currently occupies the Niger North seat in the Ninth Senate.

It was gathered that the police sealed the New Bussa Township Stadium in Borgu LGA, the venue of the rally, and stationed its officers at the entrance on Tuesday morning.

The officers prevented APC supporters from entering the stadium for the event that was billed to start at 11 am.

Niger Police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun DSP in a statement on Tuesday, said the decision was taken to prevent a “breach of security” following credible intelligence at its disposal.

Abiodun said the police would not allow needless loss of lives and destruction of property in the state.

He said, “The police had to take over the venue of the planned rally, as a proactive measure due to intelligence received of a likely breach of security at the venue.

“Hence, we have to do the needful to avert any possible attack or hijack by suspected miscreants to cause mayhem and breach of peace in the community.

“The command will not fold its arm and allow acts of political violence, avoidable loss of life, destruction of properties, and lawlessness.”

Meanwhile, Former Super Eagles forward, Kanu Nwankwo has denied reports that he endorsed Bola Tinubu for president.
