The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has reacted to the killing of the party’s senatorial candidate for Enugu East District, Oyibo Chukwu.

Some unknown gunmen killed and burnt Oyibo Chukwu, at Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area on Wednesday evening.

The gunmen also killed five supporters who were with him inside his car.

The gunmen shot him inside his vehicle with five other people with him and set the car ablaze.

Taking to his official Twitter handle on Thursday, Peter Obi in a strongly worded statement, said he received the news of Oyibo’s murder with deep shock and sadness.

While condemning the killing in its entirety, Peter Obi noted that “Human lives must remain precious, irrespective of political affiliation.”

According to him, the mindless bloodletting that occurs in the nation is beyond depressing, noting that “we must not continue to toe this dangerous path.”

He called on law enforcement agents to fish out and bring to book, the perpetrators of this crime and ensure that Nigerians freely exercise their civic duties without intimidation

Part of his statement reads, “Enough of the killings, now is time for healing. I sincerely condole with the bereaved family, the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, and our dear Labour Party family, for this painful loss. I call on the law enforcement agents to fish out and bring to book, the perpetrators of this crime, and ensure that Nigerians freely exercise their civic duties without intimidation.”
