Gunmen have killed the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Enugu East Senatorial District, Oyibo Chukwu.

It was gathered that Oyibo was shot dead with five supporters inside his car on Wednesday evening while they were returning from a campaign trip in the Agbani area.

The Labour Party senatorial candidate and his party members were killed and set ablaze inside his vehicle at Amaechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

It was gathered that Oyibo was gunning for the senate with the likes of Chimaroke Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ada Ogbu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Chijioke Edeoga, confirmed that the gunmen shot Oyibo inside his vehicle with five other people with him and set the car ablaze.

“It is true that our senatorial candidate for Enugu East senatorial district for Saturday’s election has been killed. They (gunmen) shot him and five others and set them ablaze,” Punch quoted him saying.

“Our party members are being targeted for assassination by political parties that felt threatened by the rise of the Labour Party in the state and are afraid they may lose the Saturday’s election.”

Supporters of the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi have expressed anger and bitterness over Oyibo’s death three days to the elections.

An unverified video on social media showed a man burnt inside a campaign vehicle with people around the scene weeping and wailing.

KanyiDaily had also reported how Kano House of Representatives candidate under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kamilu Ado Isah died four days to election.
