The 140 thugs were arrested with arms and ammunition in the university town of Nsukka in the Nsukka Local Government Area.
Reports say the thugs were apprehended at about 7:30 am on Saturday at a popular Carolina hotel, Nsukka.
The security operative also arrested three hoodlums at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Nsukka.
The thugs, a source disclosed were fully armed with weapons including AK-47 rifles.
The source added that thugs have confessed to having been deployed by the chairman of the local government, Walter Ozioko.
