Nigeria Police Force Arrest, Investigates Twitter User For Cyberstalking

The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested one Mr. Chude Franklin Nnamdi with the Twitter handle ‘@chude__’ for cyberstalking.

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon and posted on the force’s Twitter handle.

Adejobi said Nnamdi was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State on the 18th of March, 2023, and he is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Abuja.

He said the suspect was picked for cyberstalking, pursuant to a complaint received via a petition, about his activities on social media which contravenes the provision of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and other criminal laws.

According to the Nigeria Police Force image maker, a prima facie case has been established against Chude Franklin Nnamdi while the case file has been forwarded to the Force Legal Department for further action.

The statement reads briefly, “The Niger, therefore, Force, therefore, urges members of the public to familiarize themselves with provisions of the law and be aware of the penalties for violating them most especially cybercrime laws with the new trends in the digital media space.”

A check by Kanyi Daily on the Twitter handle of the suspect showed the last post he made was about the just concluded governorship election in Lagos State.

In the post, Chude wrote, “Situation report:

Governoship Election ballot box snatching supervised by the Baale(area chief) Himself.

“Address: Lekki Lagos Osapa 2 Pulling Unit 022.

“In one of the videos; you see the boy on the red jersey shirt  that broke the tables, receiving instructions from the Baale.”

He accompanied the post with a video from the incident.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour on Wednesday, disclosed that there was no election in the state.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour stated this while addressing the media.
