The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the just conducted presidential election, Peter Obi has congratulated Nigerian-born professor of History, Professor Saheed Aderinto of the Florida International University, who recently won the $300,000 Dan David Prize—the largest history prize in the world.

Peter Obi congratulated Prof Saheed Aderinto in a short statement he posted on his official Twitter handle on Sunday.

According to Peter Obi, beyond the financial reward, he is particularly thrilled by the achievements of intellectual giants like Professor Aderinto, whom he argued place Nigeria on the global map.

The former Anambra governor noted that as a firm promoter of education for societal development, he hopes that the scholarly works of Professor Aderinto will deepen “our” understanding of history and help sharpen “our” views for a better tomorrow.

A part of Obi’s tweet reads, “Today, I celebrate and felicitate with our Nigerian-born Prof Saheed Aderinto, a Professor of History and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, who recently won the $300,000 Dan David Prize—the largest history prize in the world.”

Professor Aderinto on February 28th was announced as one of the winners of the 2023 Dan David Prize.

The prize is a major international award that recognises and supports outstanding contributions to the study of history and other disciplines that shed light on the human past.

It is considered to be the “largest history prize in the world.”

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested an ex-Boko Haram fighter, a traditional ruler, and 35 others for drug trafficking

NDLEA Spokesman, Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday and posted on the agency’s Twitter handle.
