My Family Conspired Against Me And Voted For Peter Obi — David Umahi

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi said his family conspired against him to vote for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the 2023 general election.

The governor, who disclosed this during an interview with Channels Television, said he was suprised to find out that his family voted for Obi against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi claimed that Obi got many votes because Nigerians were protesting against the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket and some perceived dissatisfaction with the state of the nation under the party.

He noted that it was protest votes, while expressing his surprise that President Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu lost their respective states during the election.

The APC chieftain, who is the Senator-elect for Ebonyi South senatorial district, said many people including him underestimated the Labour Party in the election.

David Umahi said, “I didn’t give any chance to Labour Party to win any election in my state because what we have put on ground is such that no any other political party should be able to win anything not even councillorship election in Ebonyi State.

“I see the election or the votes of Labour Party as a kind of protest vote, against my party (APC), against the PDP. That’s the way I see it. So, I was very surprised that even in my family, there was conspiracy against me that I didn’t know that they were going to vote for Labour in the presidential election but in other elections, it is APC because of what we’ve done.

“It’s very surprising that Mr President could lose his state at the presidential level and Asiwaju could lose Lagos State. The religious leaders in my state were totally for the Labour movement and that’s why I saw it as a kind of protest vote, it wasn’t a vote for his Excellency, Obi as such.”

KanyiDaily recalls that before the election, David Umahi said Peter Obi will get substantial votes in the South-East, but Tinubu will win the presidential election.
