IGP, Kayode Egbetokun Condemns, Directs Officers Who Ran Van Over Man To Force Hqts

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has condemned the action of the policemen who ran a van over a handcuffed man in Ekpoma, Edo state on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

The handcuffed man, from a video calculating on social media on Friday, was seen lying down in front of the van.

While some people engaged the policemen in a discussion, the driver of the police van drove away in a panic running over the man and dragging him along the road for a few metres.

The incident generated uproar from the crowd, but the angry crowd was quickly dispersed by gunshots from the policemen.

The policemen involved in the incident have since been arrested.

A statement issued by the force Spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the IGP has directed the erring policemen to report to the Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday for further action.

The statement called on members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality.
