This development comes following a series of legal maneuvers surrounding the leadership of the Labour Party.
Earlier in April, Lamidi Apapa had laid claim to the position of LP National Chairman after Julius Abure, and three others were restrained by the Federal High Court in Abuja from parading themselves as national officers of the party.
In response, the state chairpersons of the Labour Party across all 36 states disowned Apapa and threw its weight behind Abure as the party’s leader amidst the crisis.
A subsequent verdict in May from a State High Court in Edo State upheld Abure’s status as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, while simultaneously restraining the faction led by Lamidi Apapa.
However, the most recent development emerged on Thursday, August 24, when the Court of Appeal in Owerri delivered its decision to depose Abure from his position.
This ruling also recognized Apapa’s role as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
The Court’s judgment carried additional consequences, as it directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly acknowledge and publish the names of all gubernatorial candidates endorsed by the Apapa-led National Working Committee in states like Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi.
Moreover, the Court of Appeal dismissed the gubernatorial candidacy of Senator Athan Achonu from Imo State and other candidates affiliated with the Abure-led faction within the Labour Party.
KanyiDaily recalls that Lamidi Apapa had claimed that Peter Obi is not qualified to rule Nigeria because the presidential candidate did not respect the court order.
