KanyiDaily recalls that Nigeria secured their spot in the round of 16 after playing a goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland, finishing second in Group B behind co-hosts, Australia.
Next week Monday, the Super Falcons will take on the high-flying Three Lionesses, who topped Group A.
England’s star striker, Lauren Elizabeth James, has been in devastating form during the tournament, scoring two goals and providing three assists to propel England to a 6-1 victory over China.
Despite the impressive numbers and England’s dominant performances, Super Falcons forward, Rasheedat Ajibade, expressed unwavering confidence in her team’s abilities.
Ajibade, who plays for Atletico Madrid Femini in Spain, believes that the fearless Nigerian squad can achieve greatness and qualify for the quarter-finals.
She said, “Honestly, I must tell you that nobody believed in us because of the kind of preparations we had for the World Cup but of course, we have always believed in ourselves.
“We are limitless, we will keep pushing and we will also take each game one at a time but I can assure all Nigerians that the team is totally focused on achieving greatness.”
The Super Falcons’ strong performance, including a 3-2 win against Australia and a goalless draw against Canada, has boosted their confidence as they aim to upset higher-ranked countries and progress further in the tournament.
Ranked 40th in the world, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are determined to challenge England and stop them from securing a spot in the quarter-finals.
