“I’m The Best Candidate To Succeed Governor Obaseki In Edo” – Asue Ighodalo

Asue Ighodalo, former Chairman of Nigeria Breweries Plc, asserts himself the most qualified candidate to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Ighodalo mentioned working together with Adams Oshiomhole during his governorship from 2008 to 2016, as well as with Governor Obaseki, who is set to leave office in 2024.

Emphasizing his Edo heritage from Ewohimi in Edo Central, Ighodalo asserts his independence, declaring that he is not affiliated with any particular group

He expresses readiness to utilize his extensive experience as the chairman of various companies when seeking the electorate’s support in the upcoming elections to govern the state.

The chairman of Alaghodaro Summit said he was offering himself for service because of his desire to make Edo strong economically, stating that several parts of the economy could be used to provide for the people and take them out of poverty.

Referring to Edo State as the nation’s heartbeat, he asserts that the state merits quality infrastructure, including well-maintained roads, accessible piped water, excellent hospitals, top-notch schools, and various other essential amenities.

Characterizing the shift from the private sector to politics as a difficult choice, he highlighted his preparedness for the challenges inherent in the role, emphasizing the crucial demand for integrity.

Ighodalo said, “I am here to serve the state and I can say I am the best man for the job. I hear people saying I am someone’s candidate but I can tell you that I am nobody’s candidate. All I will do is to bring my experience to bear having been chairman of several top companies.

“It was a tough decision resigning from those positions. I’m coming from a comfort zone and you put all of that down to say you want to do things for your people. I can do things for many more people having done for fewer people in the corporate world.

“All of the experience and connections I have had over the years would be brought to bear. I am committed and convinced that I can do it. It looks uncertain but even it will be certain in God’s name.

“I pledge to allow youths to serve in my government because the youths have talents to build the state. Be assured that I am fully committed to the uplift of our state and I will give my life to ensure that.”

Ighodalo expressed his determination to advance upon the accomplishments of past governments, assuring that he would refine policies to better align with the current needs of the community.

He expressed his commitment to uniting members of the People’s Democratic Party in the state, urging stakeholders to reconcile and collaborate for the party’s success.

Kanyi Daily recalls that Godwin Obaseki of Edo state had endorsed a gubernatorial aspirant within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, who hired an interpreter to communicate with his Esan kinsmen.
