Solomon reportedly collapsed on Friday, August 21, while attending the meeting organised to address disagreements within the party and bring members together.
He was reportedly given first aid at the venue before being taken to a hospital in Kabba, where he was said to have been pronounced dead on arrival.
The meeting was organised by a former chairman of Ijumu LGA, Funsho Olumoko, as part of efforts to resolve disputes among APC members and improve unity ahead of future political activities.
It was gathered that an earlier reconciliation meeting had failed to resolve an alleged leadership dispute within the local chapter of the party.
Oyewole Solomon and some other party leaders and government officials reportedly left that meeting after disagreements emerged.
The latest meeting was expected to bring together APC leaders, local government and ward executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees from all 15 wards in Ijumu.
Following Solomon’s death, lawmakers representing the area expressed their condolences.
Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, and Hon. Salman Idris, representing the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, described the deceased as a committed APC member and grassroots politician.
Karimi said Solomon played an important role in promoting peace and strengthening the party at the grassroots.
He described the late APC chairman as a bridge builder whose dedication and loyalty to the party would be remembered.
“He was a bridge builder, a man of peace, and a grassroots politician who believed in the ideals of the APC.
‘His commitment, dedication and loyalty to the party were exemplary. His death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family and Ijumu LGA, but to the entire APC family in Kogi State,” Senator Karimi said.
Solomon’s death has left party members and political associates mourning, although the exact circumstances surrounding his death have not been independently established.
