The daring gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the estate and abducted the victims on January 7.
As negotiations for ransom were underway, the kidnappers escalated their demands from an initial N60 million per person to a staggering N100 million, making the total ransom amount N700 million.
Shockingly, it has been reported that three of the victims were killed by the kidnappers as a warning to their families due to perceived delays in meeting the increased ransom demands.
Among the victims was Folorunsho Ariyo, a 13-year-old high school student.
Recent reports also indicate that the kidnappers, who have been active in both Sagwari Layout and some villages in Bwari, killed the abducted student to compel the family to expedite the ransom payment.
With the situation escalating, the residents of Sagwari Layout are now planning a massive protest to express their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as government and security agencies’ inaction in rescuing their kidnapped relatives.
Originally planned for Monday, the protest was rescheduled to Tuesday to respect Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Nigeria.
The community feels pressed against the wall and is seeking urgent intervention to address the security challenges they are facing.
