Fake Doctor Remanded for Allegedly Drowning Baby in Ibadan

A 50-year-old fake doctor, Olarewaju Oludele, has been remanded in the Agodi Correctional Centre by an Ibadan Family Court at Iyaganku for allegedly causing the death of a baby boy.

He is said to have drowned the infant in a canal, Magistrate Mrs. O. O. Ogunkanmi, citing jurisdictional constraints, did not entertain Oludele’s plea and has referred the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal guidance

The matter has been adjourned until March 4 for mention by Ogunkanmi.

Oludele was arraigned before the court by the police on a three-count charge of impersonation, abduction, and murder

In earlier proceedings, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, the prosecuting counsel, informed the court that Oludele committed the offense on December 28, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital, Akinyele, Ibadan

She stated that the imposter doctor took the baby boy delivered from his mother in the hospital without her consent and drowned him in a canal

Adedeji also informed the court that Oludele falsely presented himself to the mother as a qualified doctor to defraud her and other members of the public.

She mentioned that the offenses violated the Criminal Codes of Oyo State (2000) and were subject to punishment, including three years of imprisonment for impersonation, 14 years for abduction, and the death penalty for murder.

Kanyi Daily recalls that a Family Court in Ibadan, on Tuesday, had ordered the detention of Michael Ayinde, aged 51, and his son, Abiola, aged 19, over allegations of raping his daughter and sister
