Bobrisky faced a six-count charge, including allegations of abuse of currency, currency mutilation, and money laundering, brought forward by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi on Friday.
During the proceedings, the prosecuting counsel urged the court to dismiss charges 5 and 6 against the influencer.
The court considered this request, while Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the charge of naira abuse in four separate instances.
The Federal High Court postponed its judgment until Tuesday, April 9th, while Bobrisky was remanded in EFCC custody.
Speaking to TVC News, Bobrisky’s lawyer acknowledged the delay, citing the relevant laws regarding their client’s status as a first-time offender, and advocated for leniency in sentencing.
According to Bobrisky’s lawyer, first-time offenders of currency mutilation face a fine of ₦50,000 or a six-month jail term.
He revealed that the EFCC has agreed to the request to pay the fine, noting that there’s nothing he can do regarding the case adjournment.
During the trial, Bobrisky expressed remorse to the court, pledging to change and claiming ignorance regarding the consequences of spraying money, which he purportedly mistook for a cosmetic product.
Despite the EFCC’s acceptance of Bobrisky’s terms for fine payment, his release from custody has not yet been facilitated.
KanyiDaily recalls that Bobrisky was arrested on Wednesday evening, April 3, and has since been detained at the EFCC’s Lagos Command.
