Ali Ndume, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Borno South, was removed after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the country.
The outspoken senator was replaced by Tahir Monguno from Borno North during the plenary session on Wednesday, July 17.
Two days later, Ndume declined the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Tourism, saying he lacks the experience for such a role.
Speaking from his home in Maiduguri on Friday, Ndume said he never wanted to be the Senate Chief Whip, having previously served as the Senate Leader.
The senator explained that he was allowed to choose a vice-chairman position on a committee after successfully supporting Godwill Akpabio’s campaign for Senate President.
Responding to those asking him to resign from the APC, Ndume stated he is a founding member of the party.
He noted that he was among the senators who formed the APC and noted that he would consult his constituents before deciding on leaving the party.
Senator Ndume also revealed he delayed his response to his removal as the Senate Chief Whip because he was mourning a family member’s death.
KanyiDaily recalls that Ali Ndume recently revealed that the deal for the presidential yacht had been finalized.
