Electricity Discos Alert Their Customers As National Grid Collapses Second Time In 24 Hours

Electricity distribution companies have alerted customers after the national grid collapsed again on Tuesday, following an earlier collapse on Monday, which left many areas without power.

On Monday, power generation dropped from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 p.m. to 3.56 GW by 6 p.m., eventually falling to 0.00 GW by 7 p.m.

Efforts were made to restore electricity, and some areas saw power return by Tuesday morning.

However, at 9:17 a.m., the grid collapsed again, and by 10 a.m., power supply had fallen to 0.00 MW nationwide, causing another blackout.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the collapse in a statement issued to its customers on Tuesday.

It reads, “Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for a speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power is restored. Kindly bear with us.”

Ikeja Electric also acknowledged the outage, assuring customers that they were collaborating with partners to restore electricity.

Please, be informed that we experienced another system outage today 15/10/24 @ 09:17hrs affecting supply within our network,” it said.

Similarly, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company apologized for the disruption, noting that the grid had collapsed at 6:05 p.m. on Monday, and restoration efforts were underway.

Dear Esteemed Customers, We sincerely apologise for the power outage in our franchise states since yesterday evening. This is as a result of the. collapse of the national grid which occurred at about 18:05 pm on Monday, October 14th,” the Kaduna DisCo said.

The team at the Transmission Company of Nigeria are making efforts to restore supply back to the grid after which we shall restore to customers across all our franchise. We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Meanwhile, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company announced a planned maintenance exercise in certain areas of the Federal Capital Territory, scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The company apologized for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance, which aims to improve service delivery.

It said, “Dear valued customer, this is to inform customers in Arab Road, FO-1 Community, Dutse Makaranta, Kagini, Brick City Estate, Custom Quartes, SPDC Estate, Kabba, Mopol Baracks and Hospital, Mami Market, Angwan Fulani, Monkey Village, DSS Training School, Public Service College, Charley Boy Gate, Mab Global Estate, Ipent Estate and its environs that the Transmission Company of Nigeria will be conducting a maintenance exercise on the 33KV Dam feeder and the 33KV deidei feeder from 10am to 6pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that this exercise is essential to ensure better service delivery. Thank you.”

This latest grid collapse occurred just 24 hours after distribution companies reported the previous failure around 6:48 p.m. on Monday, which led to widespread power outages across their networks.
