Naim Qassem, who served as Nasrallah’s right-hand man for years, has been acting as the group’s leader since Nasrallah’s death.
In a statement, Hezbollah’s Shura Council confirmed Qassem’s appointment as secretary general, pledging to uphold Nasrallah’s strategies “until victory is achieved.”
Hassan Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah for decades, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut in late September.
Following his death, multiple senior Hezbollah members have also lost their lives in further Israeli attacks near Beirut.
Meanwhile, independent Iranian sources report that Qassem’s current location is unknown.
His appointment comes at a time of increasing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, sparking worries about further instability in the region.
KanyiDaily recalls that Israeli military also killed Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader behind the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
