Speaking at a New Hampshire Democratic event on October 22, Joe Biden referred to the former president, saying, “We gotta lock him up,” but quickly clarified that he meant it “politically.”
Biden was discussing Trump’s plans if he were to serve a second term, when he made the remark, adding that if he had said something similar five years ago, people would have thought he was out of line.
He said, “I know this sounds bizarre – it sounds like if I said this five years ago, you’d lock me up. We gotta lock him up.”
The comment echoed Trump’s 2016 campaign, where his supporters often chanted “Lock her up,” referring to Hillary Clinton.
Trump later distanced himself from leading the chant, telling Fox News in June that while the crowd said it, he did not.
According to the New York Post, a source close to Biden clarified that the president wasn’t suggesting that Trump should actually be jailed.
In response, the Trump campaign fired back, accusing Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of trying to politically target Donald Trump because they couldn’t win “fair and square.”
Trump Campaign Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt called on Harris to denounce Biden’s remarks, claiming the administration is a bigger threat to democracy than Trump.
“Joe Biden just admitted the truth: he and Kamala’s plan all along has been to politically persecute their opponent President Trump because they can’t beat him fair and square.
“The Harris-Biden Admin is the real threat to democracy. We call on Kamala Harris to condemn Joe Biden’s disgraceful remark,” Karoline Leavitt said.
KanyiDaily had reported how Joe Biden mistakenly referred to the Vice President Kamala Harris as former Presiden, Donald Trump.
