In a powerful new initiative launched on World Polio Day, music stars and public figures from West and Central Africa joined forces with UNICEF to champion child immunization by releasing a song titled “No More Zero Dose.”
Featuring acclaimed Nigerian and Central African artists like Cobhams Asuquo, Timi Dakolo, WAJE, Spyro Master Soumy, Mawndoe, Omawumi, Qing Madi, Sekouba Bambino, Spyro, Stanley Enow, and celebrated Nollywood actors Ali Nuhu and Kate Henshaw, the song is designed to amplify the call for universal child immunization in a region where millions of children miss life-saving vaccines each year.
West and Central Africa currently rank among the lowest in global immunization rates, leaving countless children unprotected against preventable diseases like polio, measles, and yellow fever. ”No More Zero Dose” brings the urgency of childhood immunization to the forefront, rallying parents and caregivers to join the movement and secure a healthier future for every child.
The song launch event in Lagos was equally empowering, with Lagos State First Lady Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu calling for collective action to support immunization efforts. Nigerian Paralympic champion Victoria Nneji also spoke at the event, sharing personal stories of her own early struggles and journey to success.
UNICEF’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Gilles Fagninou, emphasized that reaching “zero-dose” children—those who haven’t received any vaccinations—is paramount. “These children are among the most vulnerable, and ensuring they receive life-saving vaccines is essential for their future,” he shared, underscoring UNICEF’s focus on reaching remote communities with essential vaccines.
