During the interview, Davido warned African Americans against relocating to Africa, citing the poor state of the economy.
He clarified that his comments weren’t meant to insult Africa but to highlight specific parts of the continent, leaving out the struggles in less developed areas.
His remarks didn’t sit well with some prominent figures, including Reno Omokri, Patrick Doyle, and Akashat Nymat, who accused him of portraying Nigeria negatively.
Many Nigerians also criticized him on social media, arguing that his statements undermined the country’s image.
Addressing the backlash on X (formerly Twitter), Davido seemed unfazed, calling himself the “real ambassador” and joking about his polished accent during the interview.
He said, “Y’all mad ’cause we the Real Ambassadors.
“The way my accent be for that interview dey sweet me. Very demure.
“Lmao @tvcng nah today?” Davido added.
KanyiDaily recalls that music promoter, Paulo Okoye had also spoken out in defense of Davido, who faced criticism over his comments on Nigeria’s struggling economy.
