Trump’s speech was filled with excitement, even though only Fox News had called the race in his favor, with no other major networks making the declaration yet.
As his supporters cheered and shouted “USA,” Trump took the stage at his campaign headquarters in Florida, joined by his wife Melania and several of his children.
“We are going to help our country heal,” said the former president. “It’s a political victory that our country has never seen before.”
US networks had already called key swing states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina in Trump’s favor, and while other states hadn’t been decided yet, he was leading Harris in those as well.
Kamala Harris’s team quickly became somber.
“You won’t hear from the vice president tonight but you will hear from her tomorrow,” said Cedric Richmond, Harris’s campaign co-chair, as supporters began to leave her watch party in Washington.
In another setback for the Democrats, Trump’s Republican Party also took control of the Senate by flipping two seats, ending the Democrats’ slim majority.
A potential Trump win could send shockwaves worldwide, with US allies in Europe and Asia nervous about his return to nationalist policies and his support for leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
However, the US dollar rose, and bitcoin hit a record high, while most stock markets saw gains as traders expected Trump to win.
KanyiDaily recalls that President Joe Biden previous called for Donald Trump to be “locked up” just two weeks before the 2024 US presidential election.
