The Nigerian ex-international, known for his time at Inter Milan and Newcastle United, made this claim during an interview with ESPN UK.
When asked to name a player who was faster than him at his peak, Obafemi Martins confidently responded, “No one.”
When Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was brought up as a comparison, Martins asserted, “I’m faster than him.”
The 40-year-old went on to claim he outran several speedsters, including Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, Kyle Walker, Kylian Mbappe, Arjen Robben, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mohamed Salah.
Even when asked about Brazilian icon Ronaldo Nazario, Martins stood firm: “I’m faster than him; he knows that.”
He also declared himself faster than Leroy Sane, Adama Traore, and former Arsenal star Theo Walcott.
When challenged again to confirm if none of these players could match his speed, Martins confidently replied, “No player! Go back to Inter Milan and ask about me. No way!”
Obafemi Martins was a celebrated striker during his prime with 201 career goals, earning the nickname ‘Obagoal’ due to his ability of finding the net. While his powerful shots and dribbling skills stood out, it was his blistering speed that truly defined his game.
KanyiDaily recalls that Nigerian artist, CDQ had called out his colleague, Burna Boy, for allegedly disrespecting Obafemi Martins.
